In Sterilization

Now more than ever, sterilization of everything is essential. At Westmoreland Dental, our sterilization procedures have been in place for years because it’s critical for proper oral hygiene. As we see more sterilization in areas we would never think before, we thought we’d revisit our sterilization procedure with you! Check out why we believe sterilization is so important below.

Sterilization

Sterilization is the act of cleaning something, so it is sterile. Sterile means something is free from bacteria or other living microorganisms. In other words, it’s immaculate. Keeping things sanitary in a dentist’s office is essential for the health of both the patients and employees. These practices ensure that bacteria are not being spread between patients and aren’t lying around on other surfaces.

Some of the most common bacteria found in both blood and saliva include hepatitis, herpes, tuberculosis, staph, and strep. These are all things we do not want to pass from one person to another. If someone has a compromised immune system or underlying health conditions, bacteria like this can be extremely harmful! This is why it is so important.

At Dr. Westmoreland’s office, each member of our team is trained in the latest sanitizing methods. We do this to ensure patients receive the safest and highest quality dental care available. In addition, we placed our state of the art sterilization station in plain view for all patients to see. Our instruments and surfaces receive disinfectant after each patient. In addition, we often dispose of specific instruments because we don’t believe in re-using them.

Our patients’ health is so important to us that we took it a step further. Rather than using city water to perform procedures, we use our own separate water source. This ensures all water is properly treated and disinfected with each refill. Your health is our top priority at Westmoreland Dental.
